Omaha Legal Professionals Association

Message from the President

I hope the OLPA membership had a productive and prosperous 2015 as we close in on the last couple of months of the year. OLPA has certainly had some great growth and development this past year. I am certainly extremely thankful to all of the dedicated committee chairs and general membership for making that possible. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and the organization is very blessed to have such amazing legal professionals dedicating their personal time and resources to OLPA’s mission.

No legal professional should miss this month’s general membership meeting Wednesday, November 18, 2015. Kimberly Thomas, the Executive Director of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will be presenting. As legal professionals we are a vital part of our community. CASA not only provides a way for you to feed your soul and give back to your community, but it also enhances your experience in the legal field.

The meeting will be held at DJ’s DugOut in Miracle Hills again. If you haven’t been able to make it to a meeting yet, you should know that the food is delicious and the price is right at $14. That incudes tax, tip and gratuity. Please see this issue of The Legal Pad for the flyer. Shirley Simmonds, ALS, and Lynda Henningsen, our Reservations Committee, have been doing a very impressive job on that committee. In fact, they have also been picking up the duties of the Programs and Public Relations Committee. This committee has yet to be filled. Please consider signing up to help out on this committee. I assure you, you will have lots of assistance from the membership. Additionally, this term would only need to arrange for three meetings.

Another committee that needs to be filled is the Nominations & Elections Committee. We could really use one or two members to volunteer for this committee as soon as possible. This is an obviously very important committee and although elections are not until March, that is actually only three general meetings away. This committee does not require a great deal of time and could be a fun project for two members to work on together. Please see this issue of The Legal Pad for more details and a list of all vacant committees.

Our Ways & Means efforts are in full effect this time of year. In addition to our on-going fundraiser at and coupon books we will have our traditional Village Inn pie certificates available through the end of November. The pie certificates make great gifts and are a good deal as well at $10 each. Sherry Mitchell, PLS will have them available at the next general meeting. All proceeds go to our annual scholarship.

There are more details in this issue of The Legal Pad on all of our current events as well as on our website. If you haven’t stopped by the website lately, you should check it out. Our Website Administrator Lisa Bryan has done a beautiful job updating the look and content.

You recently received an invitation with all the details regarding OLPA’s Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. This year it will be held at Fernando’s. The last time we were at Fernando’s for one of our holiday parties we all enjoyed great food and had a really fun time. The party is only $13 and Jean Roeder and Deb Hubbs, PLS of our Community Service Committee will be collecting donations for Lutheran Family Services. I hope to see you all soon!

Until next year,

Valentina Saavedra
OLPA President
